Statement of Intent:

We are committed to ensuring hygienic laundering of linen used by tamariki and kaiako in order to ensure cleanliness of preschool items and reduce cross-infection in a manner that is respectful and responsive to tikanga practises.

Procedures:
The following procedures will be followed to ensure all linen and resources used by kaiako and tamariki are hygienically laundered:

  • Head kaiako will launder the washing as and when required. This will be taken off-site.

  • Dirty laundry will be kept in a separate bucket

  • Preschool washing which is soiled with urine, faeces or vomit will be washed separately in a hot water cycle.

  • Tamariki are asked to provide with a waterproof bag on enrolment. Any soiled items will be placed in these bags and returned to parents/whānau/caregivers to launder appropriately.

  • All laundry will be dried by a clothes drier or other hygienic method, folded, and returned to storage areas as appropriate.

  • Separate mop heads will be used for accident and cleaning floors (toilet/kitchen/learning area). These will be replaced and washed daily.

  • Separate colour coded cloths are used for the bathroom, general cleaning, art area, tables and kitchen. A notice will be displayed specifying which colour cloth goes with each area.(see Cleaning and Hygiene Policy)
