Mana atua/Wellbeing Goal 3: Tamariki experience an environment where they are kept safe from harm.

Mana atua/Wellbeing Goal 1: Tamariki experience an environment where their health is promoted.

Statement of Intent:

Windsor Montessori believes that the health and safety of tamariki and adults is of paramount importance. We make our preschool a healthy and safe place for tamariki, parents/whānau/caregivers, kaiako and visitors through an awareness of health and safety issues and by assessing and minimising the hazards and risks to enable tamariki to thrive in a healthy and safe environment.

Where an incident may occur, kaiako will take all practical steps to understand why it occurred and how to prevent it from happening again.

This policy provides an overall of how we manage health and safety at our preschool.

Purpose:

At all times to comply with relevant legislation to ensure we provide a health and safety environment for all tamariki, kaiako, parents/whānau/caregivers and visitors.

Our Aim:

  • To maintain the wellbeing of our tamariki by creating a safe and healthy environment, and acting urgently and effectively to ensure the health and wellbeing of all tamariki.

  • To remove or reduce the risks to the health, safety and welfare of tamariki, parents/whanau/caregivers, kaiako and visitors.

Health and Safety Awareness:

  • Our induction training for kaiako includes a clear explanation of health and safety issues so that all kaiako can adhere to our policies and procedures as they understand their shared responsibility for health and safety. The induction training covers matters of employee wellbeing, including safe lifting and the storage of potentially dangerous substances.

  • Health and safety issues are explained to the parents/whānau/caregivers of new tamariki as part of their induction process so that they understand the part played by these issues in the daily life of the preschool.

  • As necessary, health and safety training is included in the annual training plans of kaiako, and health and safety is discussed regularly at staff meetings.

  • We operate a No Smoking/Vaping Policy to ensure that no one smokes in any area that tamariki are present or about to be present, including the garden or outside the front of the preschool.

  • Tamariki are made aware of health and safety issues through discussions, planned activities and routines.
