Te Whāriki:
Mana Atua/Wellbeing – Goal 1. Children experience an environment where their health is provided.
Statement of Intent:
At Windsor Montessori Preschool, we recognise that all tamariki are unique and are entitled to rest or sleep when required. The comfort, safety and wellbeing of all tamariki when they are sleeping/resting in our care is of prime consideration.
Purpose:
To ensure that tamariki have a safe sleeping/resting place to sleep which promotes their comfort, safety and wellbeing.
To ensure there is a system in place for monitoring sleeping/resting tamariki.
Procedures/Guidelines:
-
Kaiako will implement practices and procedures for resting or sleeping tamariki that meet their individual needs and keep them safe from harm.
-
These procedures are displayed in the rest/sleep area and will be made known to parents/whānau/caregivers upon enrolment. Whānau will be informed when they pick up their tamaiti if they have needed a sleep.
-
Kaiako will seek information from parents/whānau/caregivers about the preferred sleep/rest routines of their tamaiti.
-
Sleep records will be displayed and will be accessible to parents/whānau/caregivers.
-
Kaiako will use the ‘Sleep Record’ form to record sleep/rest times. Tamariki will be checked for warmth, breathing and general well-being every 5 - 10 minutes or more frequently according to individual needs.
-
A mattress will be kept in the office along with bedding and will be provided by kaiako when a tamaiti needs to rest/sleep. This will be set up away from the learning environment in the “library" area.
-
All tamariki will be respectful of anyone who needs to rest/sleep in this area. This will be kept a quiet and peaceful place to ensure tamariki can rest/sleep without being disturbed.
-
There will be no food or liquids in the sleeping/resting area while tamariki are resting or sleeping.
