“Everything must be taught and everything must be connected with life” - Maria Montessori
Celebrating Birthdays the Montessori Way:
Birthdays are special events that are celebrated at the preschool. It is an opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate each tamaiti in a special and collaborative way. Whānau will be invited to take part in a Montessori Celebration Hikoi/Walk when Tamariki turn four years old, where they get to bring along photos and will be invited to share stories about their tamaiti. Tamariki who turn three and five years old will be acknowledged at Montessori with their peers and Kaiako.
This is seen as an important and exciting time for tamariki who experience and share their special milestones with friends and whānau. Tamariki will develop a greater sense of themselves as they share their culture with others while celebrating how special and unique they are. Tamariki will also gain a greater understanding of time i.e.the months of the year and the passage of time from birth onwards.
Farewell Celebrations:
This is a very special time when we will say farewell to tamariki and whānau. It will be celebrated with a special mat time where tamariki will get to share their experiences at our preschool while our community farewells them onto their next stage of learning. We will acknowledge the reasons for them leaving ie school/moving away etc.
Other Celebrations:
These may include special whānau evenings, celebrating special calendar events like Matariki, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural celebrations, etc. Celebrating together as a community is very important to our preschool.
Nutritious Food:
Our holistic wellbeing is important to us. We want our tamariki to learn about the importance of what they eat and to recognise what are sometimes foods and everyday foods. Food is a wonderful part of any celebration. Whānau can contribute a fruit platter for morning kai should they wish to do so.
